sponsored: lightinthebox

My package from lightinthebox.com arrived on the same day as my items from hopshopgo! I waited a long time for this one. No idea why though. I was beginning to wonder if my sponsor had given up on me before starting D:

I'm so glad they didn't. I love the items that arrived in the mail! Items featured here are available at lightinthebox. They have been very generous to let me have all these gorgeous beauties:
Mesh crop tophttp://www.lightinthebox.com/women-s-gauze-long-sleeve-round-neck-t-shirts_p1054307.html
Cross back crop tophttp://www.lightinthebox.com/women-s-sexy-backless-3-4-sleeve-crop-top_p1162356.html
Floral culotteshttp://www.lightinthebox.com/women-s-vintage-flower-printing-culottes_p1167025.html
Cape sleeve lace tophttp://www.lightinthebox.com/women-s-lace-cut-out-cape-sleeve-blouse_p1030965.html
Knitted sweaterhttp://www.lightinthebox.com/women-s-cutout-loose-long-sleeves-sweater_p876218.html
Lightinthebox has a wide variety of items from clothing to accessories to electronics. You can seriously browse their website for a whole day. Moreover, their items are constantly on promotion! Their discounts are like 30-50% off and sometimes they have additional discount codes of 40-50%. Super affordable to shop. Plus, you get back 1% as reward points to use in future and they ship worldwide via DHL.

The mesh crop top (above) is super soft, thin and light. I'm quite amazed at the quality and workmanship of this. It is truly as amazing as it looks. Love the fit of it as well. The smallest size is a M but it fits me perfectly fine. I'm so glad it does because I love it so much. The mesh parts are thin enough not to feel to hot in it. Just be sure not to hook on to anything that could destroy the mesh portions because it feels so delicate.

I hadn't expected the floral culottes to be so so pretty! They come with a braided belt as well. It is made of chiffon with a stretchable back, so it is pretty free sized but it does not stretch a lot. Make sure to check the measurements on the website! Anyway, I love the pleats on the culottes and it is pretty hard to make creases on this sort of material so say hello to perfect looking skirts all day! They are so perfect, I'm looking at the other culottes the website offers! Gonna get them all if I can.

I love the cross back crop top too because all these fancy cut out backs are the rage this season! I don't own any tops with fancy backs so this would have been a perfect addition if it fit me better. It is very soft and stretchy but it is just too big for me. It's still wearable but it just looks loose. Even the sleeves are loose. Such a bummer. I would have loved wearing this otherwise. Will replace with my own picture soon.

I've always adored this cape sleeved lace blouse that I've seen on many other bloggers so I had to get one for myself too. I was quite shocked when it arrived because when laid out, this lace top is in a rectangular shape, just like a scarf, but with a neck hole. If you look under, you'd see two sections sewn for the arms. It drapes on nicely though and there are lots of waves for the sleeves. I feel like a total princess wearing it and it's quite breezy too because it's crochet. Great for the festival season and coachella too! Tuck it into a skirt or shorts to complete the look!

I chose this knitted sweater because of the nice cut out design and I don't really have white/cream sweaters, so this was a great addition. It's oversized and loose but not thick, so it's suitable for cali weathers and aircon for singapore. It actually doesn't keep you very warm because of all the cut-outs in the sweater, so you might want to wear something underneath. Otherwise, it's great for layering and super comfy and oversized.

wetseal & urban outfitters shopping haul

I bought a total of 5 items from Wet Seal when they were having a 70% off clearance sale, so my items only amounted to slightly over 20 bucks! They are always having some sort of promotion or sale. If it's not a BOGO sale, it's a half off sale. I just placed another order for two slip dresses when they were having a 50% storewide sale. Also, you get a 10% discount code when you sign up for an account or newsletter or something. For this order, I also got a code to use free shipping when I spent more than $15.

I took a long time contemplating on whether or not I should buy stuff though. I had added a whole bunch of stuff in my cart and some of them were running out (though I figured I could live without those items so it didn't matter). Eventually, I bought two cardigans, a pair of daisy leggings, some oxfords and a NY pendant necklace. The cardigans were at a clearance price of around $22, so after 70% it was about 7 bucks. Couldn't help but buy them in both colours, especially since they were available in my size!

They looked kinda thick on the modelled photo but it actually isn't. The cardigan is quite light, in fact. It makes a good piece for spring. This is also my first black cardigan, so I can't wait to style more of it!

The daisy leggings were around 4-5 bucks after discount so I couldn't say no. I got them in XS and while putting them on, I swear I heard the rubber band crack. I didn't do much harm to the leggings though. I guess I just have to be more careful when putting them on as they do not have great stretch at the waist band. Otherwise, it is cute and comfortable. The rest of the leggings have great stretch and it's not too thin. I'll be wearing them with sweaters and longer tank tops.
The floral cut out oxfords were 6 bucks after discount so I was just like, why not? It didn't look too bad in the photo so I just bought it. However, I'm not very pleased with what I got. They aren't the prettiest shoes and the top view of it isn't very nice. The tip of the shoe is rather round and looks odd. I got it in a size 7 and it's a bit big for me. I usually wear a size 38 with socks, so I thought a size down would do if I decided not to wear socks with these. I haven't really tried walking in these yet because I don't really plan to wear them out. Maybe, I'll try breaking them in to see if they are comfortable enough to wear to work though, since I need black shoes for my job at universal studios.
Finally, I got this NY pendant necklace for a couple of dollars only. I think it is a rather cute piece and I actually got it just to add more stuff into my cart, otherwise I'd only have 4 items.

Wet Seal shipped my items in a mailer bag rather than a box like F21. It's a good thing for me because my package weighed 0.99kg so HSG charged me 1kg of charges only. WS uses Fedex though, which is super slow and has horrible tracking statuses. My package reached HSG before the tracking status showed as delivered.

The final thing I bought is this marled open cardigan from Urban Outfitters for $29.99 from their sales section. It is really an investment because I usually wouldn't pay so much for a cardigan or anything. This is really pretty though and it's UO. Quality wise, it's not bad. Quite thick, smooth and soft. It's really comfortable to wear but I'll probably only use it on a chilly day or when I'm wearing spaghettis or something.

forever 21 shopping haul

I hardly do shopping haul posts but I'm quite excited and happy with my recent purchases. Also, I always find my purchases to be quite lame after a few days of buying. I'll be like, I should have bought something else instead...but then I'd remember why I bought what I bought, because it was cheap.

So I got 7 pieces of clothes from Forever 21. Two floral crop tops, two basic spaghetti crop tops, 2 bras and a pair of denim shorts. I'll be adding my own outfit layouts and photos of me wearing them as soon as I find the time to photograph them.

Frayed Denim Shorts $14.80
My spree pretty much started because of these shorts. I mean, they look so perfect on the model! But I never fit well into F21's shorts or pants unless they had an elastic waist. For $14.80, I decided to give it a try. I can't seem to find any cheap distressed high waist shorts in my size anyway. The really pretty ones that would definitely fit me are in the thirties range. I might invest in a pair or two in future, but not at the moment. The button and zip feel really cheap and I read in the reviews that it broke off for one girl. Otherwise,  sthe material is not that bad, reasonable and it looks cute, though the colour is darker than in the photo. The smallest size still turned out to be too big for me everywhere, from the waist to the thighs. I seriously do not know how it looks so good on the model. Even my thighs are too skinny for the shorts. I give up.. If you come across any cheap denim high waist shorts with a waist size of 11-12" across / 22-24", please let me know immediately!

These shorts are very versatile and easy to style. You can seriously match them with anything. I paired them with an aztec caged top I got recently too and a sweater from lightinthebox when it gets chilly.

Delicate Lace Crop Top $6.80
I got to say, I kinda forgot I ordered this until I saw my items. Must have been really long or it felt like it. It's super cute with the lace details and very stretchy. It's a tiny bit big on me at the bust but otherwise, it's fits perfectly.

I paired it with a strappy bralette inside because the neckline is a little low. Perfect chance to show off the strap design. I also paired it with a black skater skirt, which doesn't really bring out the lace design unfortunately.

Daisy Love Crop Top $7.80
Big love for this crop top! I've always loved cut in shoulders so this is super cute. I had wanted the one in black but they ran out of small sizes so I got the white one. It turned out to be super pretty too. The neck hole is truly small though, so it is quite hard to fit your head through it and you gotta be careful. Otherwise, it is rather stretchy elsewhere. The cutting doesn't fit my small bust very nicely though. It's not that bad but I remember trying on the floral Shameless crop top and I couldn't get it because the cutting was just not good. In fact, many of F21's cut in crop tops are not suitable for me because of the cutting. So, I'm super happy that these are still wearable.

Paired these with my denim frayed shorts, and a black cardi from wetseal that I got with my HSG shipment. They were on 70% sale so I just couldn't resist!

Be Cool Crop Top $1.80
Got this spaghetti strap crop tops in grey and mint because they were only 1.80 each. They were also the only colours left in small so I just snagged them. The material is quite soft and stretchy, so it is definitely worth the price. It's a tad translucent though and the neckline can get quite low, so it's also a good chance to wear strappy bralettes!

Tonal Sports Bra $3.36
Finally, got these tonal sports bras in pink and coral because they were on bogo sale. Also, I own two other of their layering bras and they are the most comfortable things on earth. F21 actually has a few variations of this but they seem to be mostly the same to me. The padding on these are just bigger and stiffer. Otherwise, it is still as comfortable and stretchy. I'll be wearing these to replace my normal bras as much as possible. Comfort first. The only disappointing thing about this is that the colours turned out to be much brighter, and almost neon. Totally not like what the picture shows.

Before HSG, I bought some f21 stuff from a spree organiser, which is basically someone who collates orders from many people before placing the order. I bought a couple of caged bralettes and a backless dress and it finally arrived in the mail after a long long wait!

Festive Caged Bralette & Wildflower Caged Bralet $8.80
Caged bralettes are all the rage this season but it's so hard to find any here so these were a perfect pick. Plus, the price is reasonable and a great alternative to brandy melville or some other stores. The designs are cute too. It fits nicely, but it is unpadded so you're going to have to attach some pads somehow or just go with a bra inside. The back strap would still be covered a little by the caged back. The material is definitely thicker than it looks and so worth it.

And now, they make cute little twin outfits!

Backless Smock Dress $15.80
The caged tops would definitely go well with this backless dress too. Again, they are so hard to find here except in Forever 21 but f21 sells them for $29 here. I'm actually quite surprised they haven't sold out yet. In fact, there is a huge rack of these dresses at their stores. I might pick up the blue one if they haven't sold out in smalls yet. This dress has got a textured feel and may be a bit translucent, so it's better to have some safety shorts on. It goes great with a cardigan too and the shape is just pretty and complements shapes!

Styled it with the wildflower caged bralette and a white cardigan from wetseal!

Hope you have enjoyed this shopping haul and review post and I hope they have helped you in picking out items from f21 if you intend to shop soon ;)

hopshopgo review

So recently, I've been on an online shopping spree with my newfound card freedom. I was debating between vpost and hopshopgo to use as a forwarder to ship back to Singapore and actually settled on hopshopgo by just looking at the shipping rates. I actually only found out more hidden costs in hsg after using their services. I will be doing a detailed review on the process and services of hsg as best as I can in this post to help anyone facing a shipping freight dilemma.

Hopshopgo is a freight service by comsgateway, but a newer and improved version of it. Moreover, it uses paypal which ensures buyer's security and gives you a 10% shipping discount. I've read of credit card fraud cases with comsgateway so this will not happen with paypal in the picture. You'd need a paypal account to register an account with hopshopgo. You'd then get a US shipping address located at Portland, Oregon completed with a Zip code and telephone number. It looks something like this:

Name
c/o SGP-XXXX
Portland
Oregon 97230
Tel: xxxxxxxxx

The important and crucial line that you have to include when you place an order with your merchant site is the second line of the address which says "c/o country-unique suite ID". SGP is the country code for Singapore, so it would be different if you are located elsewhere. The four characters that follow are your unique Suite ID for HSG to assign and store your items together in their warehouse. So, do ensure that this line is correctly typed when making your order.

Buying Items and Shipping to HSG
I bought items from Forever 21, Wet Seal and Urban Outfitters. When checking out, simply type the shipping address as that given by HSG and your order will be on its way! Once they arrive at HSG's warehouse, they will send you an email once the package has been sorted and assigned to your Suite ID. They were quite prompt in updating this although they state that this process usually takes 1-2 business days. So, don't worry if you haven't seen anything on HSG's website even though your package has been tracked as delivered on your merchant's delivery tracking status.

HSG also offers a 'buy for me' service. This is especially useful for sites that only accept US credit cards. They do charge a percentage of your total item cost as a service charge.

What happens at HSG
Once your package has been registered at HSG, you would be able to see a copy of the invoice of your items, as well as the chargeable weight of your package. If repack options are available for you to save on shipping charges, do opt for it. It should be about USD 3 per package for repack services. Since freight services charge on actual weight or volumetric weight, whichever is higher, you might want to leave a remark when making your order with your merchant site to use a smaller box. My Wet Seal and UO package were charged via their actual weight which is 1kg each while my F21 package was charged via its volumetric weight of 3kg though the items only weighed 1.1 kg. Also, because HSG scans your invoice for you and offers repack services, this means that they open your package and potentially looks through your items. If you do not want that, then perhaps opt for vpost instead. I heard they have are quite lax with it.

You are given 30 free storage days at HSG per package, after which you are charged 1USD per package per day. So, shop all you can and consolidate all your packages within the 30 days and ship them back!

Shipping Rates and Fees
HSG's shipping rates are easily found on their homepage if you are not logged in and under the 'services' link if you are logged in. HSG offers a standard shipping service that ships within 6-8 business days and an express shipping service that ships within 3-5 business days for a slightly higher charge. Charges may differ for different countries but for Singapore, it kinda looks like this:

DescriptionExpressStandard
First 0.5kgUS$ 13.20US$ 11.00
Every additional 0.5kgUS$ 3.40US$ 2.85
Speed of Delivery (business days)3 - 56 - 8

Shipping to Singapore is generally quite cheap, surprisingly. Also, HSG charges for every 500g so your package will be rounded up to the nearest 500g. You are able to consolidate your packages so that you are only charged the first 0.5kg once. The first 3 packages are free to consolidate, thereafter it is 1 USD per package to consolidate (free for Prime members) up to a max of 15 packages.

Apart from shipping charges, HSG also charges a 10% fuel surcharge (which is actually offset by Paypal's 10% discount, so it is not much of a difference). Also, there is a small insurance fee of 0.65%.

My shipment of 5kg with a declared value of about 150USD costed me 37.89 USD altogether. Here is the breakdown of it in case you need a rough gauge.

Discounted international Charges32.98
Fuel surcharge3.67
Insurance1.24
Sub total37.89
Total Amount Charged$37.89
HSG uses DHL to deliver. I will be updating this post once my package reaches me.

Customer Service
You should be able to find most information you require on their website. You probably just need the time and patience to look through their 'services and support' section of their site. If you have any queries, you could drop them an email or do a live chat with one of their operators. I've had a rather pleasant customer service experience with HSG thus far.

I emailed them to ask if they offered a multiple-to-one packing service because I didn't believe that my F21 package needed all the space in the box. They replied my query within 24 hours and told me that they charged 10 USD for such a service for the first 5 packages. I didn't need to use this service eventually.

Then, I also did a live chat with them because the shipping name I used on one of my orders differed from the shipping name at HSG. I wanted to ask if this would be a problem. Their staff were super friendly and helpful to reassure me that my package would still be assigned to my Suite ID. All I had to do was to give them the tracking number of the package so that they would be able to anticipate the arrival of my package. I'm happy to say that my package made its way successfully to my HSG address.

Overall Experience
I opted for the standard shipping service and submitted it on 10 April. My packages were shipped out on the 11 April and I received all of them on the 14 & 15 April. Super fast service, if you ask me. Moreover, they actually estimate the shipping arrival in terms of business days, but DHL does operate over the weekends, so your package will still move over the weekends, which speeds things up!

They do open your packages to scan the invoice, but they will repackage it by sealing the box or putting your stuff into a DHL polymailer bag. My Wet Seal and UO package arrived in polymailers so they were transferred to a DHL bag. My F21 package remained in it's huge box. Also, they didn't seem to notice the bottle of nail polish in my f21 package so it arrived safely. I'm guessing it's because f21 wrapped it in their yellow plastic bag so it wasn't so obvious.

Definitely will return to HSG when I ship my next package from the States!

Comparison to vPost
  • Shipping Rates
    • I'm not sure why other reviewers say that vpost offers cheaper shipping rates than HSG because if you plot a graph for the rates of both forwarders, HSG is far cheaper than vPost.
    • vPost charges a base charge of 13.40 SGD and 0.72 + 0.19 per 100g thereafter.
    • HSG charges 14.30 SGD for the first 500g, and 3.705 SGD per 500g thereafter.
    • I guess it seems cheaper because vpost charges per 100g but that base charge makes a huge difference. You'd essentially be paying the same amount for 500g of weight in HSG.
    • You can view a comparison of graph plots between both shipping rates on wolframalpha
  • Service
    • I've heard that vPost isn't very good when it comes to customer service. But, I can say that HSG has superb customer service.
    • Also, HSG offers a repack service so that you can save on shipping cost.
    • vPost only offers 21 days of free storage vs 30 free days at HSG

I'll be doing a shopping haul post soon! I hope you find this post useful. Leave a comment if you have any questions to ask!

nail art: ocean lights

Took many shots of these but I'm still not quite satisfied with my photo.

Well, my nails for the week are in a gorgeous shade of dark blue. I actually painted it over a black base to make the colour more intense. This blue would also be perfect to do galaxy nails. It's just so mysterious and magical.

I also added a triangular shaped pattern filled with silver glitter. I used scotch tape to accomplish this. All you gotta do is make sure that your polish is dry before sticking on the tape to use as guides. Then, paint your desired colour on and remove the tape slowly, peeling in the direction which your nails grow i.e. from the base to the tip of your nail.

It is super simple to do these but I think my choice of colours make these nails more suitable for prom or for a night out. Also, the silver glitter triangles keep reminding me of a white christmas.

4 more weeks of school and I'll be more free (hopefully) to do other diy projects to share! Also, can't wait to start my summer job at universal studios ;)

ootd: BFF spring outfits

I haven't updated this space for a long time because I have been so busy with school work. Since I haven't posted anything related to fashion for a long time, I shall do a short spring outfit post because I haven't written anything for so long!

I haven't bought anything new yet so I've been mixing my clothes around to create new outfit variations. I've been feeling so uninspired! I did, however, manage to do up these two sets of outfits which are great for a BFF matching outfit day. They aren't bff twin outfits cos the prints don't match but they look good together. So, down below, you can see me being my own bff in the two outfits when worn.
The plain tank top is from Cotton On, but I actually bought it for just $2 from a local reseller. The material is super soft and flowy, which makes it perfect to tie a knot! This is a rare phenomenon in my closet because the tops I get normally can't tie knots. The skirt is also thrifted but there's a similar piece at forever 21 in shorts form. And that is my favourite cardigan which is also from a reseller. I'm actually wearing a pink daisy bralette from f21 underneath because the tank is a tad sheer, but it's not very obvious in the photo. So, this is currently my favourite look for various reasons, plus it is so comfy!
Add a little contrast to florals with some stripes! Crop top and denim skirt are American Apparel inspired pieces. Cardigan was thrifted but I saw it in Taiwan! It was really quite cheap, going at 100 NT which is about $4.50? I'd totally wear this to school. Simple and not too over dressed.

Oh, and it was rainy today, so the weather was just perfect to take these shots! Totally reminds me of why I love sweater weather because then I'd get to cozy up in these cute cardigans!

Until next time!

PS, oh and help me click on the ads :) pretty please!
